Niemann collected 56 tackles (35 solo) and one pass defensed during the 2019 season.

Analysis: While teams are utilizing linebacker-heavy packages much less often in a pass-driven league, Niemann did log north of 400 defensive snaps in 2019 thanks to Anthony Hitchens missing a pair of games in the middle of the season. Niemann should serve in a similar role next season but could see his playing time increase if one or more starting linebackers miss time.

Sorensen finished 2019 with 57 tackles (44 solo) and two interceptions over 16 regular-season games

Analysis: Sorensen possessed the starting job in 2017 and then again in 2018 in what was an injury-shortened campaign for him. The team decided to reinforce the safety spot this offseason by investing free agent dollar into acquiring Tyrann Mathieu and then spending draft capital in the form of a second-round pick on Juan Thornhill. The rookie secured the starting job in training camp, leaving Sorensen in more of an ancillary role in the defensive backfield. However, a late-season torn ACL for Thornhill could result in Sorensen opening 2020 back in a starting spot.

Harris signed a contract with the Bears on Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Analysis: Harris was cut by the Browns on Monday, and he wasted little time in agreeing to terms with the Bears. The 28-year-old tight end, who previously spent time with head coach Matt Nagy while in Kansas City, now joins a Chicago tight end corps that's struggled to attain consistency with Trey Burton (hip) and Adam Shaheen (foot) in back-to-back seasons. He caught 15 passes for 149 yards and three touchdowns across 15 games in Cleveland last year.

Ward posted 74 tackles (56 solo), two interceptions and a forced fumble in 2019.

Analysis: After logging just 140 defensive snaps in 2018, Ward claimed a starting spot this season and took advantage of the opportunity. The second-year corner allowed just a 57.5 opposing quarterback rating to go along with just a 41.2 completion percentage and a 1:2 TD:INT ratio on passes tossed his direction. Ward still has another year left on his contract and figures to retain his starting job in 2020. Bashaud Breeland enters the offseason as an unrestricted free agent, so it remains to be seen who will line up across from Ward.

Mathieu totaled 75 tackles (63 solo), four interceptions and two sacks during the 2019 season.

Analysis: Mathieu fell 14 tackles short of his one-year output with the Texans in 2018, but he did double his pick total from the previous campaigns and continues to supply a bonus as a willing rusher of the quarterback. Mathieu has two years remaining on the contract he signed with the Chiefs prior to 2019, so Mathieu should retain his spot at the back end of the Kansas City defense next season.
